The review goes on to say “There were various activities to take part in too. For instance, the children could get dressed as Romans or Celts, my son and I played a couple of games which were popular in Roman times, the children were able to make mosaics, and for 50p each, my children were able to do brass rubbing. That was something they really enjoyed. As well as the ruin of the villa, there were numerous Roman artefacts on display, which I assume were found on site. These were fascinating, not only for the detail involved, but also for the fact that quite large items (including a very large jug) have survived intact for 1,800 years or so.We spent approximately two hours at the villa, and had a wonderful time. We all learnt a lot, and I appreciate the efforts which have been put into preserving and presenting the villa and the artefacts, and providing fun activities to do.I have plumped for four rather than five as the rating only because there was no toilet on the site. We had to use the toilets in the adjacent Orpington railway station. Luckily the ticket barriers were open, otherwise we may have had to buy a train ticket just to use the loo.”The review finishes with “I would recommend Crofton Roman Villa as a good place to spend a few hours, and learn some useful history of the Romans in Britain.”
